Just to show that things with Sony haven't changed much... I just bought and received today from Dell, a Sony Cyber Shot dsc hx100 v, which is a $400 large digital camera. All is well, except for the fact that the pmb 32 bit software won't install on my 64 bit win 8 system, which is exactly like the win 7 system. I got a chat with sony and they used logmein to take over my computer and noticed that I had win 8 installed. He ended the chat abruptly, and that was that. All that is required to solve this problem is a 64 bit executable version of the pmb software, but they can't seem to supply it. The camera costs $400! Are they ready to return the camera because they can't supply an executable for a piece of software?

Can't I do most things without the extra software? What is the big selling point of the pmb software any way? I'll look into it, but this doesn't say much for Sony, which is too bad. Perhaps I can take that $400 and buy a nice Canon or other camera, do you think?

Same problem here except mine is a handycam dcr-trv480 on a windows 7 prof. 32 bit. I have had a sony camcorder for almost 30 years, miles of 8mm memories I would love to edit and put on lasting medium. If Sony can't make this work I will never even contemplate buying another of their products and if anyone asks me about sony I will tell them it's just another four lettered word for SHIT.

I read this before trying to install PMB on Win7-64 and decided to consult with Sony's ON LINE support CHAT technicians. I simply said that I was worried that the computer would get corrupted and asked for assurance that the NEW version dated 11/11 would work without scrogging things up. To my surprise, he asked if he could take over my computer and insure a safe install. I said sure and hooked up the camcorder (SR11) to the cradle and USB cable to the computer. You have to turn the cam on and use the tough screen to select "connect" on either the memory stick or the HDD ...once that is done, Windows will recognize the camcorder. The rest of it he did (downloading and installing PMB and importing the existing videos into pmb. PMB also imported ALL of the other pictures and vids on the PC). No rebooting was done and everything worked fine. I rebooted after logging off the chat and had no registry or DVD problems like those reported below.
Anyway...perhaps the new software version is the key to success with this. Sony is clearly willing to invest the time to make sure you get it right so based on my experience, I'd suggest using the chat function and letting them do it!
Kudos to Sony for excellent service.

I was able to load the PMB software, but after formating and burning the first disc in DVD format I receive an error "Authoring Tool for DVD has stopped working...", what is the fix for that. I tried reloading the PMB software, and doing the updates, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Great post, thank you....am a Granny and lost now but.....the answer is, the next camera won't be Sony!! PMB updated itself and in so doing wiped my AutoRun,my default for images, have to re-install the update every time I plug the camera in....who knows what's happening in my Registry....that's a step toooo far at age 74.5!! At least I know not to phone Sony. What I want to know is:::if I remove pmb completely, will I get back to my default images AutoRun place, which was soo SIMPLE ???
